I moved to Canada in February 2014 to work as a full-time Cashier in a gas station and a part-time Pharmacy Assistant. I had to work two jobs to make ends meet because I was still paying the placement fees to the agency that help brought us here. I am also assisting my family financially in the Philippines. In the Philippines, life is much simpler. I worked as both a sales representative and a pharmacist. My wife was a Veterinary Consultant in the past. Our earnings are adequate for starting a family, but we want a better life for our children. That's why we came to Canada in the first place.
Greatway was introduced to us in 2015, but the company never piqued my interest. Life as a gas station cashier continued until 2017, when I moved on to a new opportunity as a Service Consultant in a dealership. The income is adequate but not exceptional, which is why I am still looking for additional opportunities that will benefit us more. In January 2020, I met with an old friend from my hometown, and his wife presented the business.
In March I got laid off temporarily because of covid. I accepted the business because I had nothing else to do besides look after the kids at home. I studied from April to September of 2020 and received my license in October. I’ve been doing the business part-time since then, and I can say it has truly supplemented my income.
